Eliteserien BTTS Stats: Both Teams to Score Rates by Norwegian Club
Norway's top flight leans towards BTTS Yes, but the gap between Bodø/Glimt and Sogndal shows that the club in front of you matters more than the league label.

I started this file with a simple question: how often do both teams score in Eliteserien, and does the club involved change that? Across 2012–2024, both sides found the net in 58.5% of 3,072 league matches, which works out at a fair BTTS Yes price of 1.71.
That leans towards Yes, though not as heavily as Norway's goal-friendly reputation suggests, and the club spread runs from 63.3% for Bodø/Glimt down to 52.7% for Sogndal. This is long-run background rather than a tip sheet. For individual fixtures, my both teams to score today page is where I work through match-day thinking. Here the job is to learn what a normal Eliteserien match looks like before any price comes into it.
Chapter 1Bodø/Glimt top the BTTS table while Sogndal sit bottom
The bar chart ranks clubs with 100+ league matches by how often both teams scored in their games. Bodø/Glimt lead at 63.3% over 294 games, a fair price of 1.58, with Start (61.7%) and Mjøndalen (60.8%) next. At the other end, Sogndal managed 52.7% over 150 games, fair odds 1.90, with Haugesund (55.5%) and Odd (56.0%) just above them.
What strikes me is how tight the middle is. Most clubs sit within a few points of the 58.5% average. Even the league-wide figure carries a 95% range of ±1.7 points, and club samples are far smaller, so a club a point or two from the average tells me very little. The useful information is at the two ends of the chart.
League average 58.5% across 3,072 matches (fair odds 1.71); BTTS No 41.5% (fair odds 2.41).

| Tromsø | 56.8% |
| Stabæk | 56.3% |
| Odd | 56.0% |
| Haugesund | 55.5% |
| Sogndal | 52.7% |
BTTS No landed in 41.5% of matches overall, a fair 2.41. That is the figure I hold a No price against. For Sogndal or Haugesund games, the long-run case for No is at least arguable rather than something to dismiss out of hand.
Chapter 2Home and away splits reshape the BTTS picture for several clubs
League-wide, home sides scored in 81.4% of matches and away sides in 71.6%. When BTTS fails, the away team is usually the side missing from the scoresheet. The table splits each club's BTTS rate by venue, and some of the gaps are large. Kristiansund ran at 66.7% at home against 52.9% away, a lean of +13.8 points.
Stabæk go the opposite way: 50.7% at home and 62.0% away, a gap of −11.3. Bodø/Glimt lean the same direction, with 59.2% at home and 67.3% on the road. Those two are the clubs I would least want to price off a single overall number.
| Club | Matches | Home BTTS | Away BTTS | Gap | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bodø/Glimt | 294 | 59.2% | 67.3% | −8.1 | 1.58 |
| Start | 180 | 62.2% | 61.1% | +1.1 | 1.62 |
| Mjøndalen | 120 | 61.7% | 60.0% | +1.7 | 1.64 |
| Sandefjord | 234 | 58.1% | 62.4% | −4.3 | 1.66 |
| Sarpsborg 08 | 354 | 57.6% | 62.7% | −5.1 | 1.66 |
| Aalesund | 270 | 60.7% | 59.3% | +1.4 | 1.67 |
| Viking | 354 | 62.1% | 57.6% | +4.5 | 1.67 |
| Kristiansund | 204 | 66.7% | 52.9% | +13.8 | 1.67 |
| Vålerenga | 360 | 59.4% | 57.8% | +1.6 | 1.71 |
| Strømsgodset | 384 | 61.5% | 55.2% | +6.3 | 1.71 |
| Molde | 384 | 57.8% | 58.9% | −1.1 | 1.71 |
| Tromsø | 324 | 59.3% | 54.3% | +5.0 | 1.76 |
| Stabæk | 300 | 50.7% | 62.0% | −11.3 | 1.78 |
| Odd | 384 | 59.6% | 52.4% | +7.2 | 1.79 |
| Haugesund | 384 | 58.9% | 52.1% | +6.8 | 1.80 |
| Sogndal | 150 | 53.3% | 52.0% | +1.3 | 1.90 |
League-wide, home sides scored in 81.4% of matches and away sides in 71.6%.
I don't treat these splits as permanent traits, but they stop me relying on a club's headline rate. A Stabæk home match and a Stabæk away match have played out like two different bets.
Chapter 3Molde score most often and concede least among regular clubs
This chart takes the ten clubs with the most matches and shows how often each scored and how often each conceded. Molde stand out: they scored in 87.0% of 384 games and conceded in only 66.9%, the best figure on both counts in this group. Lillestrøm sit at the other extreme defensively, conceding in 78.0% of 354 games.
That explains why Molde's BTTS rate looks ordinary despite their attacking record. A side that rarely fails to score but often keeps a clean sheet pulls BTTS in both directions. I care more about where the two dots sit together than about either one alone. When both are high and close, as with several mid-table regulars here, BTTS Yes rests on firmer ground.
View the data: how often each club scores and concedes
| Scored in | Conceded in | |
|---|---|---|
| Sarpsborg 08 (354 games) | 76.3% | 76.8% |
| Viking (354 games) | 80.8% | 74.9% |
| Brann (324 games) | 78.4% | 75.3% |
| Rosenborg (384 games) | 84.4% | 68.2% |
| Lillestrøm (354 games) | 75.4% | 78.0% |
| Vålerenga (360 games) | 78.1% | 75.8% |
| Molde (384 games) | 87.0% | 66.9% |
| Strømsgodset (384 games) | 77.3% | 77.1% |
| Odd (384 games) | 76.0% | 73.4% |
| Haugesund (384 games) | 73.2% | 75.3% |
One caution covers every club figure in this file. These rates blend many seasons, squads and coaches, so a club's current side can look very different from its long-run line.
Chapter 4Season BTTS rates swing more than the average suggests
The season line shows the share of league matches where both teams scored each year. The high point was 63.3% in 2014 and the low was 52.5% in 2016, and later seasons climbed back towards the top of that range. The league average is a midpoint, not a steady state.
The coverage opens at 56.2% in 2012 and closes at 54.7% in 2024, although that final season is incomplete in the records. With 192–240 matches per season, a single year can move a few points on noise alone.
Matches per season: 192–240. *2024 incomplete in the records.

I treat the 58.5% figure as a centre of gravity rather than a promise. Early in a season I lean on the long-run number. Once the current campaign has built up a reasonable record of its own, I give that more weight.
